As we have turned over the calendar into the month of May, plant sales are coming — but watch out for traffic jams on your way to the plant sales.
On Saturday and Sunday, May 5 and 6, there will be the annual King County Master Gardener Foundation Plant Sale at the Center for Urban Horticulture in Laurelhurst, 3501 NE 41st Street. On Saturday the hours of the plant sale will be from 8 to 5, and on Sunday from 10 to 3. They will have available thousands of tomato plants, veggie starts and herbs, plus perennials, shrubs, trees and vines.
There are two upcoming plant sales which are fundraisers for local schools. This weekend, May 4, 5 & 6, Olympic View Elementary School will have all-day plant sales in their parking lot on NE 95th Street at 5th Ave NE. Be aware that the intersection of 5th Ave NE will be closed at Northgate Way all weekend for utility work. The suggested route to Olympic View school is to travel west from Wedgwood across NE 75th Street, then north on 5th Ave NE.
The Nathan Hale High School Horticulture program will have their spring plant sale next week, beginning on Tuesday, May 8th. The sale will be at their Greenhouse, located one block north of the brick Jane Addams school building. From NE 110th Street, go north on 34th Ave NE past the Jane Addams building, and turn left into the Greenhouse driveway.
The hours of the Nathan Hale Horticulture Spring Plant Sale will be: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, May 8, 9, and 10: 1 to 6 PM. Not open on Friday, May 11. Saturday, May 12: 11 to 3 PM.
The Nathan Hale Horticulture program will be selling hanging baskets (fuchsias and mixed annuals), bedding plants, ornamental grasses, herbs, vegetable starts, and native trees and shrubs. More info on the Nathan Hale plant sale is available at: http://halehighschool.info/
