It’s Memorial Day and the Ducks of Wedgwood have their sunglasses on and lawn chairs out. They are flying the flag, and they may keep it waving through Flag Day on June 14 and the Fourth of July!
In addition to flag-flying, the season of fruit vendors and farmers markets is coming. Wedgwood’s own Fruit Lady, located on 35th Ave NE at the corner of NE 80th Street, has an “open soon” sign. Watch for opening day, as she always sells out early.
Wedgwood has never been able to get its own Farmers Market but the market season will open in some nearby neighborhoods this week. The Wallingford Farmers Market will open on Wednesday, May 30th, from 3:30 to 7 PM at 4649 Sunnyside Ave N. In the Phinney neighborhood at 6532 Phinney Ave N., the market will be on Friday, June 1, from 3 to 7 PM. Besides fruits and veggies, the Phinney Market will have bread, cheese, chocolate, soup, and flowers. Food vendors will sell fresh, delicious outdoor dinners.
