On Saturday, November 3 at noon there will be a celebration for the completion of the Picardo P-Patch Kids Barn. The Kids Barn is part of the new development of a children’s garden, located in the southeast corner of the P-Patch, 8040 25th Ave NE, nearest to University Prep School. Come join the fun with a pumpkin harvest, potluck and fall crafts for children on Saturday.
The Picardo P-Patch was named for the family who farmed there right into the early 1970’s and began sharing their land with those in the neighborhood who wanted to grow vegetables. A “pea patch” has always been one way to describe a garden and when the City of Seattle started the program in 1973, the “P” was taken for that meaning and in tribute to the Picardo family. Picardo’s is the original P-Patch in the city and is one of the Wedgwood neighborhood’s treasures.
