The annual Summer Night Out Against Crime is designed to increase neighborhood support in anti-crime efforts. It has been shown that one of the best ways to combat crime is to know your neighbors and be alert to activity on your street. This year’s Summer Night Out will be on Tuesday, August 6th. It is fun and easy to arrange a Block Party with curbside cooking, games for kids and an info table for neighbors. It’s an ideal time to exchange e-mail or phone contact info for those who would like to have a neighbor’s number to call in case of emergencies. You may alert neighbors to sign up for Block Watch and be aware of northeast Seattle’s Emergency Preparedness efforts.
More info about Night Out resources is on the Seattle Police Department page. If you register, you become eligible to have emergency personnel stop by at your event so that children can meet police, fire or medic squads; they will be circulating at Night Out but will not be able to go to all of the events. Other resources on the Night Out page are printable signs for closing your street and printable invitations to Night Out to distribute to neighbors. Fight crime by taking a stand with neighbors at Night Out, August 6, 2013.
