Celebrate Summer 2013

Summer in Seattle is in full swing, and this week there are lots of activities to choose from.  The Parks Dept. has a recorded message to let you know if wading pools for kids are open each day.  If you want to go to Matthews Beach or Magnuson Park, please take note of the traffic advisory:  during road work which is expected to last until mid-August, you may travel northbound only on Sand Point Way NE.

Each Wednesday evening at University Village there is a Sounds of Summer concert with activities for kids.  On Thursday evenings there are outdoor movies at Magnuson, with food trucks and pre-movie activities.

As part of Seattle’s Seafair Celebration, this Friday and Saturday, August 2 and 3, will be Lake City Pioneer Days.  The designated Festival Street is 28th Ave NE by the Lake City Library and the Community Center.  On both Friday and Saturday there will be a Salmon Bake, and more food trucks all day on Saturday.  Also on Saturday there will be a Vintage Car Show in the parking lot of the Lake City Professional Center, 2611 NE 125th Street.

Here in Wedgwood, Saturday, August 3 will be busy with a Community Table Sale at Wedgwood Community Church, corner of NE 82nd Street and 30th Ave NE, from 9 to 1.  Stop by and check out the good deals.   On the evening of August 3rd Wedgwood’s Outdoor Cinema event will begin at 7:30 PM with music, food vendors and activities for kids.  The Outdoor Cinema will be at The Gathering Place at Hunter’s, next to the Wedgwood Post Office.  Cash donations for the event will be accepted, as well as contributions for Wedgwood Community Council membership.

And don’t forget that Tuesday, August 6, will be the annual Night Out Against Crime. There’s still time to plan a block party, close your street, invite neighbors and network to stand together against crime.
