Do you have any of those weird CFL light bulbs? Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs contain small amounts of mercury, so they must be disposed of and recycled at a collection site and not thrown in the trash. Some local stores such as Bartell Drugs, Home Depot and Lowes home improvement stores accept CFLs at all times.
Periodically Seattle City Light and Seattle Public Utilities hold recycling events where you can bring your burned-out CFLs and get free replacements (limit five.) The next CFL recycling and replacement will be on Sunday, October 13, 11 AM to 3 PM at Home Depot, 11616 Aurora Ave North.
Visit the Take It Back Network for a list of locations where you can recycle CFLs at all times, and what to do with other items such as electronics.
