Scam Jam

Fraud schemes target senior citizens.

On Wednesday, October 23, the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) will present a FREE Scam Jam seminar for seniors on how to recognize scams.  Topics covered will include understanding the psychology of scams, foreign lottery fraud, bogus investment schemes and Internet safety.  If a phone caller says, “You’ve won the lottery!  Please send in your registration fee and then we’ll send your your prize,” is this legitimate?   (……..NO…..)

Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson

Scam Jam will be from 8 AM to noon at the Museum of Flight, 9404 E. Marginal Way South.  Attendance is free and includes breakfast and museum admission. The keynote speaker will be Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson.  “Scammers are savvy, and they prey on seniors,” Ferguson said.  “We want to share the latest tricks and tips so seniors can protect themselves.”  Scam alerts are posted on the Attorney General’s webpage.
