It’s Official! Wedgwood Has a New Park!

Yesterday, the 3-year saga of Wedgwood’s newest park reached a significant milestone.  By a vote of 9-0, the Seattle City Council approved Council Bill 117982 to authorize the transfer of jurisdiction of the former Morningside Substation from the Seattle City Light to the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department.  As Councilmember Bagshaw, chair of the Parks and Neighborhoods Committee states in her description of the council bill, the land would be under parks ownership although would remain vacant until development funds are available.

MANY THANKS to Chip Nevins and Don Harris at the Parks Department for working so hard and so long on this transaction.  Thanks also to Mayor McGinn and Councilmember Sally Bagshaw for moving this legislation forward and for being an advocate for Wedgwood parks.

The former Morningside Substation is located at the NW corner of 35th Ave NE and NE 86th Street.   You can relive the magic of yesterday’s council vote in the video below.
