Advances in the science of DNA are constantly adding new information to this field of study. DNA testing is available from several different companies for those who want to find known relatives, find medical information (for disease markers) or find out what part of the world their family came from. Seattle Genealogical Society has a DNA Interest Group which has grown to having quarterly meetings, and in 2014 these teaching sessions will be held on Saturday mornings at Wedgwood Presbyterian Church, 8008 35th Ave NE.
Topics for the meeting on Saturday, January 18th:
9:30 AM: Beginning Genetic Genealogy (introduction for newcomers to the DNA group.)
10 AM to 12:30 PM: What’s new in DNA testing; the meaning of X Chromosome results; side-by-side comparison of how to access your test results from different testing companies; a presentation from a DNA Interest Group member sharing her testing result adventures.
A $5 donation is requested to help defray meeting expenses. Attendees are encouraged to e-mail sgsdnasig@gmail.com in advance to get the handout which you can print yourself (this saves costs for the study group.) The subject of DNA is fascinating and everyone is invited to attend the meeting.
A note on accessibility: the DNA Interest Group meeting will be held in the downstairs Fellowship Hall at Wedgwood Presbyterian Church; enter from the NE 80th Street door. If anyone cannot use the stairs to get to the meeting room, notify at the above e-mail to make access arrangements in advance of the meeting.
