Seattle Genealogical Society Open House

The Seattle Genealogical Society volunteers and the SGS library at 6200 Sand Point Way NE offer great resources for learning to do family history.  Everyone is invited to the Open House on Sunday, February 23 from 11 to 3. For any beginners in genealogy, you are invited to the FREE brief Introduction to Genealogy class to show you how to get started in tracing your ancestors.  SGS volunteers will be available to help you research or discuss how to build on the information you already have, no matter what your prior experience with genealogy has been.

The main program presented at 1 PM on February 23 will be “Love, Courtship and Marriage Customs of our Ancestors” by Jean A. Roth.  Courting and wedding customs have a colorful history.  We’ll discuss the role of women in relationships, courting customs like bundling, and unique wedding ceremonial traditions like hand-fasting and “jumping the broom.”
