The Seattle Audubon Society at 8050 35th Ave NE in Wedgwood holds “member meetings” which are free and open to the public. The next meeting will be Thursday, April 17, at the Burke Room of the Burke Museum on the campus of the UW. Doors open at 6 PM and the program starts at 7 PM. The speaker will be Constance Sidles, author of Fill of Joy about the birds of the “Montlake Fill.” There will be opportunity to purchase the Fill of Joy book and have the author sign it.
Also known as the Union Bay Natural Area, the “Fill” is a place that was once an enormous garbage dump but has been reclaimed as an area of ponds, lagoons and the Yesler Swamp, with walking trails and restoration areas which are worked on by Urban Horticulture students at the UW. Now the Fill teems with birds, and speaker Constance Sidles will tell of her observations of bird life.
