Are You Ready?

Are you and your family ready for weather emergencies or other events such as a power outage?  Take Winter By Storm and get ready before the rivers rise, the winds blow and the snow flies!

Take these three steps to get ready:

  • Create an emergency preparedness kit with at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food and water for your home and office. Kits prepared for vehicle road travel and winter weather evacuation go-kits are also advised.
  • Make a plan and practice the plan with your family and those who depend on you.  In an emergency it is sometimes the case that local phones are not working, but you can still reach an out-of-state phone number.  Children should memorize a contact number to give and receive messages, such as an out-of-state relative who can help family members find one another.
  • Stay informed and know the weather approaching so you are prepared for whatever comes our way.

Use the tools on the Take Winter by Storm page to help you get prepared.  You can download a template for an Emergency Contact Card to be used by family members and neighbors – it is advisable for neighbors to know how to reach you at work.  Share the cards with those you love (family, friends, neighbors, and community members) to help them get prepared, too.

Get prepared now so you can Take Winter By Storm!
