Experience the New Floating Bridge

On Saturday, April 2nd, from 10 AM to 5 PM will be an Opening Day Celebration for the new floating bridge, State Route 520 over Lake Washington.  Both the old and new SR 520  bridges will be closed for the entire weekend and access to the celebration will be via shuttle bus only.  The bridges will be set up like a community festival with displays, activities, and food trucks.

Activities will include an Opening Ceremony, 10:30 AM, with ribbon-cutting at the midpoint of the bridge. The ceremony will feature remarks from Governor Jay Inslee and other key speakers, recognition of the stakeholders who made the bridge possible, and a Guinness World Records judge to certify the bridge as the world’s longest floating bridge.  Two ribbon-cutting stations will allow you to cut the grand opening ribbon and take a section home with you as a keepsake of the grand opening.

Many of the key pieces of equipment and heavy machinery used to build the SR 520 floating bridge will be available to touch and experience, including diving equipment and fire safety trucks.  Join local organizations, including the Pacific Science Center, for fun, educational and interactive exhibits that showcase the science, technology, engineering, and math behind the world’s longest floating bridge.
