August 2016 Changes in the Neighborhood: New School Building Almost Ready

The new school buildings on 40th Ave NE will be ready when school opens on September 7, 2016.

Interior work is almost completed at the new school buildings on 40th Ave NE, which will be occupied by Thornton Creek Elementary in time for the start of the school year.  Site work on the landscaping and fields will continue, and some street work as the curbs and sidewalks along 40th Ave NE and NE 80th Street are not yet finished.

Additional information is on the school construction projects page.  About 465 students will be in the Thornton Creek program this year.  The old building (Decatur) at 7711 43rd Ave NE has a sign posted that earthquake safety upgrades will be done during the coming year.  The school district does not yet have plans for use of the old building.

Public tours of the new building will begin on Thursday, September 1st, and school will start on Wednesday, September 7th.  Update report here.
