Wedgwood’s neighbor to the north, Meadowbrook, has a history which dates back to the 1890s. Today, Meadowbrook is still an active community and has many projects going on.

The Meadowbrook neighborhood adjoins Wedgwood at NE 95th Street and extends through the areas containing Nathan Hale High School, Jane Addams Middle School and John Rogers Elementary. With so many schools near the busy 35th Ave NE arterial, Meadowbrook neighbors have long had concerns about safety of students and the dangers of traffic. Most recently the Meadowbrook Community Council has made successful application for crosswalks and sidewalks on portions of NE 110th Street where students walk to schools. In another segment of NE 110th Street, the project was approved nine years ago but has not been implemented by the City of Seattle. This month Meadowbrook representatives met with City Councilmember Debora Juarez (District 5) to ask that budget funds be allocated for the needed sidewalks for school safety.
At the Meadowbrook Community Council meeting on November 9, 2016, representatives of Metro Transit and the City’s street department (SDOT) spoke about changes to bus service and how routes will be adjusted as light rail extends farther north. Some recent changes, such as more frequent service on route 65 which travels on 35th Ave NE, have been successful.

Luminaria Walk at Meadowbrook Pond will be on Saturday, December 3, 2016.
Some of the upcoming activities in Meadowbrook will be outdoor work along with EarthCorps, a Fall Planting Challenge to remove invasive plants and put in trees. The work party will be on Saturday, December 3rd from 10 AM to 2 PM. RSVP on the Earthcorps event page for more info.
On the evening of December 3rd will be the annual Luminaria Walk at Meadowbrook Pond from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. In preparation, Meadowbrook volunteers will set up the luminaria (paper bag with sand and a candle) on Thursday evening, November 17th, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the Meadowbrook Community Center, 10517 35th Ave NE. Everyone is invited to join in on the assembly line, meet Meadowbrook neighbors and contribute your volunteer effort.
