On the north side of NE 55th Street there is Fire Station 38 on the corner of 40th Ave NE, and next to it a small restaurant and a veterinary clinic.  Application has been made for the veterinary building to be torn down and replaced by an assisted living residence with 74 units.  The new building will have retail at the sidewalk level.

Plans for the new building will be presented at the Design Review Board meeting on Monday, December 12th, 2016.

UPDATE:   At the Northeast Design Review Board meeting on December 12, 2016, three alternative design plans were presented for the new development at 4020 NE 55th Street under permit #3025827.  At issue is the bulk and scale of the building since it is allowable to be three stories high, with only 28 below-ground parking spaces.  See proposed design diagrams below.

The new building will have retail storefronts including a coffee shop which will be open to the public.

Design updates will be given at the next review meeting (date to be announced) which is part of the design review process for commercial buildings.  The schedule of meetings is on the Design Review Board page.  On that page you can sign up to receive project notices.

    1. Many people have noted the lack of senior residences in northeast Seattle. The closest right now is Ida Culver Ravenna and a new Aegis on 15th Ave NE at NE 85th Street now under construction.
