Cedar Park Elementary will open in September 2017 as an Expeditionary Learning School.
The Cedar Park Elementary School at 13224 37th Ave NE is located in a residential neighborhood to the east of Lake City. Built in 1959, the school closed in 1981 when Seattle’s population of schoolchildren was low, and the building was then leased out for artists’ studios for many years. The building was “landmarked” by Seattle’s historic preservation process in the year 2012, an action which specifies that the exterior of the building and the school grounds are to remain intact.
After an extensive remodelling process, the Cedar Park building will be ready to open in September 2017 and has been designated as an Option School, available to students not just from the Cedar Park geographic area. The program will be Expeditionary Learning which is the same program as Thornton Creek Elementary in Wedgwood.
The next community planning meeting for Cedar Park will be on Thursday evening, January 26th, from 6 to 7:30 PM. The Option School Choice Fair is on January 28th from 10 AM to 2 PM. Also check the schedule of school tours, happening in January and February: you can learn more about the Expeditionary Learning program by visiting Thornton Creek School.
