It’s been a two-year whirlwind for Homestreet Bank after first seeking a strategic merger with the Denver, Colorado based FirstSun Capital Bancorp in late 2023, which ultimately collapsed in late 2024 due to regulatory challenges. This led to the merger between Homestreet Bank and the Walnut Creek, California based Mechanics Bank in early 2025. Under the terms of the merger, which was announced in March 2025, Homestreet Bank has become Mechanics Bank. While this announcement isn’t new for customers of Homestreet Bank (now Mechanics Bank), the Wedgwood branch has now gone through a makeover with new signage!
The current Wedgwood Branch location is located within the Wedgwood Center, which is currently going through a Master Use Permit review that would redevelop the entire site. Homestreet Bank acquired the former US Bank site at 8702 35th Ave NE and has recieved a construction permit to renovate the former US Bank to the future location of the Mechanics Bank – Wedgwood Branch. Based on the site plan from the construction permit (below), the 1,553 SF size of the future Mechanics Bank – Wedgwood Branch will be much smaller than their current space in the Wedgwood Center.
