Customers of Wells Fargo’s Wedgwood Branch began recieving letters on Monday, August 3rd, that the branch location is to close on November 4th. This has been confirmed with staff at the branch. We understand from staff at the branch that the decision was a business decision and that Wells Fargo does not have plans for the property, which they own. The closure follows a pattern nationally of banks closing branches as more customers shift to online banking and appears to be similar to the closure of the former US Bank across the street, where Mechanics Bank will be relocating to in the fall of 2026.
As with all of the businesses that operate in Wedgwood, we appreciate the staff at Wells Fargo who have worked in and spent time in our community for so many years. We wish the best of luck to them and hope that Wells Fargo transitions them to new branches.
And while this closure was unexpected at this location, this follows a pattern of land use change near the 35th Ave NE and NE 85th Street intersection. Along with the future Wedgwood Center redevelopment, we will be tracking the future of the Wells Fargo property and share what we know as we find out more.
