Wedgwood Public Set to Close Saturday, August 15th

Wedgwood Public is set to close on Saturday, August 15th.  A sign titled “A Heartfelt Goodbye” was attached to their front door earlier this week announcing the closure and thanking customers who welcomed them to the neighborhood since their opening in November 2024. We wish all the best to the Wedgwood Public staff who have been serving up tasty food in our community for the last couple years!

This follows the recent announcement of Wells Fargo’s plans to close their Wedgwood Branch in November, immediately north of the Wedgwood Public.

The Wedwood Public opened following the closure of the Wedgwood Ale House, a pub that had been a fixture in the community for many years. Losing the Ale House was a big loss for the community and so found it difficult to welcome the Wedgwood Public to the community, blaming Sanjay for not retaining the Ale House when the property was acquired. Without wanting to rehash the anger that some still hold onto around the closure of the Ale House, the Wedgwood Public followed a significant remodel and much needed improvements to the building and its kitchen(s) undertaken by the new owner, Sanjay Sharma. Sanjay was incredibly enthusiastic about the project and put a ton of effort and money into the remodel which included building out the new Wedgwood Public space and the 2 ghost kitches that operate in the back (and which will remain depsite the closure of the Wedgwood Public).  You can read more about Sanjay and the enthusiasm he had for the project here and here. Tragically, in the middle of the remodel, Sanjay unexpectedly passed away. His son, Sahil Sharma, was thrown into the position of taking over the project, openning Masala Wedgwood, openning Wedgwood Public, while manage their orignal restaurant (Masala of Indian Cusine) in Northgate and grieving the loss of his dad.  From my limited encounters with Sahil, he’s very much like his dad – the consumate host and full of energy. However, managing so much has proven too much over time and has since leased the former Masala Wedgwood space to Nola (also delicious Indian food) and filled the other ghost kitchen with Taco WA (delicous Mexican food). We understand that Sahil is closing the Wedgwood Public now but is in talks with another establishment that will soon fill the space.
