Great Emergency Prep meeting!

On March 15th, over 85 people came out in the rain to learn about emergency plans for NE Seattle and learn one way to organize individual blocks for emergencies. The meeting, hosted by the WCC and Sustainable NE Seattle, included an overview of Seattle’s emergency pyramid. We had 50 people sign up to host their own block party, during which neighbors come together in a simple process to share information, get to know each other, and plan simple steps to take in the event of an emergency. Wedgwood Hub Not Activated

There is a winter storm in progress at the moment, but aside from the roads being slippery and the scenery beautiful, there seens to be minimal impact. QFC and Safeway are open, as is Rite-Aid, so those who find themselves short on supplies can stock up as needed. There is no burn ban currently on fireplace fires, so people can remain home and warm with family. There are no reports of power outages in Seattle, and phone lines seem to be working well. There often is a lot of hype around impending storms, but each time one looms, it is a good time to take a look at your emergency supplies and make sure you have what you need. If you don’t have water stored for each person in your household, fill up some containers in case a pipe freezes in the night. Check to see where you have extra blankets, and make sure your flashlights have batteries. Think through likely situations, and have a plan. Seattle Public Schools Closed Wednesday

Seattle Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday January 18th due to concerns about the impending snow storm. (The SPS site didn’t have an update about this as of this posting, but the automated calls to parents are currently in process).
