July 27, 2003 WEDGWOOD - The inaugural night of the Wedgwood Outdoor Cinema was an overwhelming hit! Sponsorship by local merchants and the hospitality of Decatur/AE2 elementary school were critical factors in the success of the event. Special thanks to our platinum sponsor, Homestreet Bank! Between 300-400 Wedgwoodians turned out for an evening of fun. Pre-movie activities began at 7:30pm. Entertainment included face painting, piñatas, a water balloon toss and performances by the Fremont Philharmonic and the Cirque de Flambé, a vaudeville troupe that specializes in performing with flaming props. Local merchants offered picnic style food, cookies and beverages and of course, popcorn!
Following sunset, The Princess Bride was projected onto a 50x30 foot inflatable movie screen that delivered a perfect image and sound from any location in the Decatur/AE2 playfield. Many members of our community stopped by the Wedgwood Community Council's table to express their appreciation and enjoyment of our outdoor cinema night. We're already planning next year and hope you'll be part of season two. If you'd like to be a sponsor or a volunteer for next year's Outdoor Cinema, please email either David Schwartz or Helen Yee. |
