A Park for Wedgwood
A 2008 city levy identifies Wedgwood for neighborhood park acquisition. With some effort, we can bring a new park to our neighborhood! A group of Wedgwood residents is currently:
- Facilitating neighborhood input
- Drafting Wedgwood-specific acquisition criteria
- Interacting with Seattle Parks and Recreation staff
- Compiling a list of potential park sites
- Considering Opportunity Fund options

NEDC Ranks 2010 "Bridging the Gap" Projects
On Thursday, Dec. 3, the NE District Council ranked the 2010 Briging the Gap proposals for pedestrian improvements in NE Seattle. Wedgwood project advocates turned out to voice support for projects in our neighborhood. The senator was here to speak at the SustainableWorks press conference on Jan. 7. She praised the nonprofit program that brings together federal stimulus dollars, utility incentives, and skilled contractors to perform home energy retrofits. 180 households in the Wedgwood/Ravenna pilot area have signed up so far. May 8, 2008: The individual hero awards this year go to Christine Larsen for her leadership on the Dahl Playfield renovation, Gale Lurie for her initiative and leadership on the annual Wedgwood Art Festival. The organizational award goes to Wedgwood Action Group for its organizing on the condo project slated for 35th NE at NE 86th.

WCC Land Use Committee has a new website
The Land Use Committee of Wedgwood Community Council has a new web site for sharing information and thoughts on land use in our neighborhood. Set up as a blog by committee chair Greg Raece, the site is a tool for Wedgwoodians to "help drive Wedgwood's land-use future." Check it out.

Wedgwood Action Group Reaches Agreement with Condo Developer
The Wedgwood Action Group and Murray Franklyn, the developer of the upcoming condo project at 35th & 86th, have reached a compromise that includes additional commitments on building design, pedestrian safety, types of businesses for the commercial space, and construction impacts. June 30, 2007: Dahl Playfield Re-Opening Celebration
...Friends of Dahl Playfield and Seattle Parks and Recreation hosted a gathering at the park June 30, 2007 featuring Mayor Greg Nickels, Councilmembers Richard Conlin and Bob Ferguson, and neighbors for the grand re-opening of Dahl Playfield. The community-driven design was 4 years in the making and includes: a new children’s play area, a new half basketball court, ball field improvements, a public art installation and forested wetlands landscaping.
Offering remarks were Mayor Greg Nickels; King County Councilmember Bob Ferguson; City Councilmember Richard Conlin; Betty Jean “B.J.” Brooks, Interim Superintendent and Stella Chao, Director of the Department of Neighborhoods. Musical was provided by Wedgwood Co-op Preschool Students and the Nyamuziwa Marimba Ensemble.

 The crowd enjoyed remarks by public officials and community leaders as well as preschoolers' songs and marimba music.

Wedgwood mourns tragic loss of Mary Cooper and Susanna Stodden
The Wedgwood Community Council expresses its deepest sympathies to the family of Mary Cooper and her daughter Susanna Stodden. Mary was librarian at AE2 at Decatur elementary school and Susanna was a staff member at Seattle Audubon Society. Both women touched the lives of countless children and adults. At the outdoor cinema at AE2 on July 15, principal John Miner spoke in remembrance of the two women and community members created memorial messages at a table set up for that purpose. The AE2 and Seattle Audubon web sites have additional messages about Mary and Susanna.
