A Perfect Day for the PLANET:HOME Festival!

The folks at Sustainable NE Seattle sure do know how to put on a sustainable living festival.  Whether it was learning on how to solarize your home; demonstrations of several electric cars; ways to care for urban goats and ducks, or any of the other fantastic ways to live more sustainably, the PLANET:HOME festival on Saturday at the Hunter Farm site was another great success. PLANET:HOME Sustainable Living Festival This Saturday (10AM to 5PM)!

Sustainable NE Seattle is again hosting this year’s PLANET:HOME festival in Wedgwood at the Hunter Farm site (7744 35th Ave NE) on Saturday, August 6th from 10AM to 5PM. This year’s PLANET:HOME festival will feature many exciting things that weren’t at last year’s wildly successful festival, such as Converted electric cars, bikes and scooters; Zero-Energy Model Home; Alternative currency presentation; Community solar project, Repurposing clothing ideas, and Emergency Preparedness Presentation. Sustainable NE Seattle Establishing an Emerency Preparedness Guild

On April 30th from 1:30PM to 3PM, Sustainable NE Seattle is hosting their first Emergency Preparedness Guild meeting at the Ravenna Exckstein Community Center.  Here is a description of the meeting as provided by Sustainable NE Seattle: We will hear from Mark Howard of the Office of Emergency Management on recommended practices and procedures. A Gathering Place for Wedgwood?

As most people familiar with the WCC knows the Wedgwood Parks Committee has been actively and diligently working towards the acquisition and development of a new park for Wedgwood to address a usable open space gap identified in our neighborhood by the City.  Levy funds have been appropriated for such a task as part of the 2008 Parks and Green Spaces Levy.  In fact, on January 12th, we had an extremely successful public meeting about the site the Parks Committee identified for acquisition, which is the Morningside Substation at the NW corner of 86th Street NE and 35th Ave NE.  Read More …

Community Skills Fair Coming Soon

Our friends at Sustainable NE Seattle are hosting a Hands On Community Skill Fair in partnership with the Ravenna Eckstein and Meadowbrook Community Centers.  The fair is open to anyone who wants to broaden their skills and learn make things with their very own hands again!
