The summer season in Wedgwood begins when the Fruit Lady opens! The Fruit Lady fruit & vegetable stand, with its delicious seasonal offerings, is open on 35th Ave NE at the corner of NE 80th Street. Cherries are in season, stop in for a free sample. On the way to the Fruit Lady, be sure to utilize the new crosswalk markings at the corner of NE 80th Street. Teach your children to make sure all traffic is stopped in both directions before crossing 35th Ave NE.
Use the crosswalk at the corner of NE 80th Street on Saturday, June 8, to go to the Plant Sale from 8:30 AM to 4 PM. The plant sale will be at the Grassy Lot on that corner, conducted by University Presbyterian Church as a fundraiser for the Balkans Task Force. All plants for sale donated by Smith Gardens, and will include bedding plants, hanging baskets and flowers.
On Tuesday, June 11 at 7 PM, the Rainbow City Marching Band will have an outdoor practice and will march through several blocks of Wedgwood while playing music. The start-and-finish-point will be at Wedgwood Community Church on 30th Ave NE at the corner of NE 82nd Street. When the band returns from its march, there will be a free ice cream social in the church parking lot (weather permitting, or indoors if needed.)
On Thursday, June 13 from 4 to 7 PM the Northeast Branch Library will host the Sound Cycling Mileage Celebration and Finale. Show your biking log to a librarian and enjoy cake and accolades for everyone who participated in the Bike to Work or School program.
Thank you Valarie for keeping the community up-to-date!
