Beginnings of the WCC

Dorothy Brancato

Where did the Wedgwood Community Council come from?  The WCC was officially founded in March 1987 after two years of neighborhood organizing efforts by Frank and Dorothy Brancato.  The Brancatos had become concerned about zoning and development in Wedgwood at the time that the Department of Neighborhoods was encouraging such grassroots involvement.  The newly-formed WCC began to publicize the process of having a voice for community concerns, speaking as representatives of Wedgwood to city officials.  Today the WCC still functions to publicize neighborhood issues and help Wedgwoodians find out how to connect with resources.
