North Precinct Police Captain David Emerick has advised there there has been a big increase in car prowls and auto thefts over the past year. Be alert when parking your car in a business district such as Lake City or the Northgate Mall. The shopping mall as well as the adjacent Thornton Place Cinema complex and the Metro Park & Ride have experienced high numbers of auto thefts.
Don’t leave visible valuables in your car including coats, computer bags, or shopping bags. Lock the doors when you park and use anti-theft devices such as a locking bar on the steering wheel.
