On Friday evening, May 9, Wedgwood Meaningful Movies will show To the Last Drop, a film about the Alberta, Canada, oil-containing tar sands. This is one of the world’s largest open pit mines and there are concerns about pollution by toxic chemicals in the production process. Questions must be asked about the overall effects of site degradation and oil use on climate, and the risk of contaminating fresh water supplies on which U.S. and Canadian food production depend.
The film will be shown at University Unitarian Church, 6556 35th Ave NE. Enter from the south parking lot of the church building. This event is free (donations gratefully accepted) and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 PM for light refreshments. The film will begin at 7 PM, followed by discussion.
