Wedgwood volunteers turned out in force for Spring Clean on Saturday, April 23 and they got a lot done.

Tony Frego, president of the Wedgwood Community Council, whacked weeds for Spring Clean at the Picnic Place.
Work on sprucing up the neighborhood commenced at two Spring Clean sites on Saturday. One was in the heart of Wedgwood’s business district, at Wedgwood’s future park at the corner of NE 86th Street. This future pocket-park has been designated as our Picnic Place since June 2015 when the community council accessed Department of Neighborhoods funding to fix up the site.
While we wait for park development, community council volunteers maintain the Picnic Place. The Wedgwood Community Council is working with the Parks Department of the City of Seattle on getting another food truck for the Picnic Place.
Over on the western edge of Wedgwood at 85th & Ravenna, hardy Spring Clean volunteers beat back the jungle of blackberry vines and other invasive species which are encroaching upon the street. The Wedgwood Community Council is giving support to a block association at the western edge of NE 85th Street, between Lake City Way NE and Ravenna Ave NE, to do street improvements and bring in traffic-calming measures. The group call their project Reimagining NE 85th Street. The Wedgwood Community Council will help advocate for the needed improvements which have been applied for at the City of Seattle.
It was a good day in Wedgwood with volunteerism, fun, sunshine and a feeling of accomplishment for Spring Clean 2016.

The cleanup work of the Reimagining NE 85th Street project received vouchers for free trips to dump debris.

Many wheelbarrow loads of plant material were hauled away at Spring Clean.

Spring Clean workers made fashion statements with orange vests.

Wedgwood Community Council’s webmaster Chris, took a break from the screens and dived into the jungle on NE 85th Street nearest to Ravenna Ave NE.
