#StopAsianHate

In September 2020, the Wedgwood Community Council published a post on our website honoring the land itself upon which our community resides and the first people whose traditional lands we live on. Our statement also acknowledged systemic racism which has led to pervasive inequities and unjust treatment of our Black and Brown neighbors for centuries and the role that the WCC may have played to perpetuate these systems in the past. Finally, we affirmed that Black Lives Matter and that we stand with our Black and Brown neighbors in support of true equity with the hope of creating a community Read More …

Thank you QFC Employees! The Final Days of Wedgwood’s QFC…

On February 16th, QFC announced they would close the Wedgwood QFC – along with their Capitol Hill location – in 60 days with April 24th being the store’s final day. The decision to close the “underperforming” stores was “accelerated” due to the a city council policy to require an additional $4/hour hazard pay for grocery store workers, a policy Kroger (the parent company of QFC) claims is the city’s “attempt to pick winners and losers among essential businesses and workers.” The decision and statement drew interest over the blame placed on local policy to require supplemental compensation to grocery workers Read More …

An Update on Wedgwood’s Future Park

It started in 2008 with the Parks and Greenspaces Levy which identified Wedgwood as a community with a gap in accessible park space. Responding to this ‘gap analysis,’ the Wedgwood Community Council led a park siting process to identify a preferred site for a new neighborhood park. In 2011, more than 150 people in the community attended a public meeting hosted by the WCC to select Wedgwood’s newest park site. Following this, Seattle Parks and Recreation led an acquisition process where Seattle City Light (the former landowner) cleaned-up the site and demolished the structure that was there before its formal Read More …

Changes to 35th Ave NE We’re Monitoring

(This post has been updated since its original posting) With the news that QFC will be leaving Wedgwood in April, interest in the future of our 35th Ave NE business district has understandably increased.
