The City Responds to our Contention to Pandora's Adult Cabaret

As we’ve detailed in several earlier posts (here and here), the Wedgwood Community Council, Maple Leaf Community Council, and Stratford at Maple Leaf co-signed a letter to the City contesting the permit issued for a new adult cabaret along Lake City Way on the western edge of Wedgwood.  Following our letter of contention, members of the WCC, MLCC, and Ravenna-Bryant Community Association met with the owner of Pandora’s Adult Cabaret to discuss his project. Today, Diane Sugimura, the Director of the Department of Planning and Development (DPD) sent the following response to our letter: July 5, 2011 Dear Mr. Miller: Read More …

Community Councils Meet with Owner of Pandora's Adult Cabaret

Earlier today, the presidents of the Wedgwood Community Council, Maple Leaf Community Council, and Ravenna-Bryant Community Association as well as the chairs of the land use committee for the WCC and MLCC met with the owner of the proposed Pandora Adult Cabaret.  This gesture of Mr. Walker was welcomed by the community councils; however, did nothing to change our contention that the Pandora Adult Cabaret shouldn’t be allowed by the City. This meeting followed the request of Mr. Walker, who posted in the comments section of several community blogs that he would like to meet to discuss his 27 years Read More …

Our Contention with the Pandora Adult Cabaret Explained

As Denise Whitaker with KOMO 4 News reported yesterday (watch video HERE and read her article HERE), the Wedgwood Community Council, Maple Leaf Community Council, and the Stratford at Maple Leaf believe that the adult cabaret permit issued for the proposed Pandora’s Adult Cabaret at the former Seven Seas restaurant was issued in error.  As mentioned in previous posts (HERE and HERE), we recognize that adult cabaret’s are legally protected uses, however their location is subject to their proximity to other adult cabarets and uses accustomed by children such as child cares, schools, community centers, parks and open space.  For Read More …

The Media Refocusing on the Pandora Adult Cabaret

Last week, we shared an update on what’s going on with the Pandora Adult Cabaret at the former Seven Seas Restaurant.  The WCC had learned of a state-licensed at-home day care facility within 600 feet of the proposed adult cabaret.  Given its state license and duration of the at-home day care, the WCC and the Maple Leaf Community Council (MLCC) believed that this would qualify as an otherwise legally established child care.  Should this interpretation be correct, it would therefore appear that the permit issued for the adult cabaret would have been authorized erroneously and need to be rescinded.   At Read More …

What's Going on With Pandora's Adult Cabaret?

Over the last several weeks, it’s been well reported that Wedgwood may be in line for a new adult cabaret at the former Seven Sea’s restaurant, located at 8914 Lake City Way NE.  The Wedgwood Community Council has formally opposed the adult cabaret and has been working with the Maple Leaf Community Council and Meadowbrook Community Council to complete the due diligence necessary to verify whether the adult cabaret is authorized as its proposed location.  The WCC has voiced its general opposition on this proposed adult cabaret and perceived deficiencies in the code through numerous emails to City officials; letters; Read More …
