City-wide Walk and Bike to School Planning Meeting Happening Tonight at Bryant Elementary Library

Sorry for this last minute notice.  But, parents from around the City are meeting tonight, from 7-8:30PM at the Bryant Elementary library to discuss planning how to increase the number of students walking and biking to schools.  This discussion builds on the success demonstrated already at Bryant Elementary which has lifted the percentage of students biking to school in from 11% in 2007 to 33% in 2011. Education Town Hall Meeting Next Tuesday, September 13th, at Nathan Hale

Senator Scott White (D-46) is hosting a town hall meeting next Tuesday, September 13th, from 6-8pm at Nathan Hale’s Performing Arts Center.  The town hall will focused on education and funding for education with a panel chalk full of experts in the field, such as Randy Dorn, Washington Superintendent of Public Education; Lauren McGuire, Seattle Council PTSA; and Susan Einfield, Seattle Public Schools Interim Superintendent. Important Seattle Public School’s Survey Regarding Kindergarten Services

The Wedgwood View blog, as well as other local blogs, have shared important information regarding a survey that the Seattle Public School District is hosting over kindergarten school services and funding.  Uncomfortable budget cuts are occurring across the State and the public school districts are no different with a $35 million budget gap.  Therefore, they are considering an increase to the monthly rate for full-time kindergarten from $207 to $310 ($103 raise, 50% increase) as a step to address this gap. Wedgwood Areas Schools Are Some of the Best!

The Seattle School District recently released the report card for all of the schools within the district.  All of the schools were scored 1-5 (1 the lowest and 5 the highest) based on a multi-faceted scoring system that looks at absolute performance and growth performance, not just test scores.  Schools that were scored a 5 had a high absolute performance and high growth performance.  In total, 12 schools received this honor including Thornton Creek, Wedgwood, and View Ridge.
