A Perfect Day for the PLANET:HOME Festival!

The folks at Sustainable NE Seattle sure do know how to put on a sustainable living festival.  Whether it was learning on how to solarize your home; demonstrations of several electric cars; ways to care for urban goats and ducks, or any of the other fantastic ways to live more sustainably, the PLANET:HOME festival on Saturday at the Hunter Farm site was another great success. PLANET:HOME Sustainable Living Festival This Saturday (10AM to 5PM)!

Sustainable NE Seattle is again hosting this year’s PLANET:HOME festival in Wedgwood at the Hunter Farm site (7744 35th Ave NE) on Saturday, August 6th from 10AM to 5PM. This year’s PLANET:HOME festival will feature many exciting things that weren’t at last year’s wildly successful festival, such as Converted electric cars, bikes and scooters; Zero-Energy Model Home; Alternative currency presentation; Community solar project, Repurposing clothing ideas, and Emergency Preparedness Presentation. Wedgwood Ducks Travel to North Carolina & Florida

On March 9th, the Seattle Times carried a great story about an aspect of the urban-agriculture movement that’s being lived out here in Wedgwood.  The story features fellow Wedgwoodian BJ Hedahl and her khaki Campbell and Indian runner ducks.  According to the article, Hedahl raises her ducks for their richer and denser eggs compared to those of a chicken.  In fact, Hedahl has become a bit of a trailblazer in the art and practice of raising ducks.  She teaches workshops on raising ducks in the urban world, which she’s titled “City Ducks 101.”  It’s a great article and well worth Read More …

Community Skills Fair Coming Soon

Our friends at Sustainable NE Seattle are hosting a Hands On Community Skill Fair in partnership with the Ravenna Eckstein and Meadowbrook Community Centers.  The fair is open to anyone who wants to broaden their skills and learn make things with their very own hands again! In an overwhelming show of support, 40 people from the community will be sharing fun and practical skills on such things as food preservation, seed starting, soap making, fruit tree grafting, knitting, tool repair, and singing.  Following the skills fair, there will be a community potluck and square dance at Meadowbrook Community Center.  Here’s  Read More …
