The Wedgwood Apartments being constructed at the former site of the Jewish Community Center (JCC) site along 35th Avenue NE, between NE 86th Street and NE 87th Street, is beginning to take shape. To make way for the Wood Partner’s mixed-use development, one thing had to happen. The JCC had to be demolished. Residents and businesses were made aware of Exxel Pacific’s schedule last week. So, in the hopes of documenting construction of Wedgwood’s first mixed-use building and Wood Partner’s first project in Washington State, I thought I’d try something slightly different. As we reported earlier, Wood Partners is scheduled to begin construction tomorrow, June 1st. Today, the Seattle PI Real Estate Blog posted an updated along with a rendering of the project. According to the Seattle PI post, Steve Orser with Wood Partners is quoted as saying, “We are thrilled that our initial project is in Wedgwood, a terrific neighborhood well-known for its excellent walkability and small-town feel…The area is very desirable and has seen steady growth since 2000, and we expect that to continue.” Wood Partners is “committed to developing a project that has a strong sense of connection to Read More …

Recently, For Sale signs popped up on the old Jewish Community Center (JCC) site, which is currently owned by Murray Franklyn. Recently, the building has been the scene of graffiti and miscellaneous junk. However, most of Wedgwood knows this site to be the scene of a proposed multi-story and multi-use condo project that sparked community opposition.
